Event & Exhibition Pavilions
A modular exhibition pavilion is a building, not a stand: it carries its own structure, envelope and exits, and it is drawn around the date it opens and the date it comes down.

How long it stands, and whether it comes down
A three-week run, a season and a permanent building want different ground works, a different envelope specification and different attention to every joint. Nothing else about the design turns on one answer as much as this one does. Settle it before the frame is ordered, and where there is real doubt, specify for the longer of the two.
The joint is where run length shows. A junction detailed to be unscrewed, inspected and screwed up again is not the same junction as one sealed shut for the life of the building. Choosing the demountable version for something that will never move is buying an option you have already decided not to take.

Which components have to be ordered first
An opening date does not move, so the programme runs backwards from it and the long-lead items go first, whatever else is still being argued over. Frame, glazing and any purpose-made screen are the three that will not be hurried. Decide those three early and let the rest of the brief catch up with them.
Crowd route
Where the queue stands and where the exits are
Arrival, the queue, the route through, the exits and the crush at the end of a talk are plan decisions, and they are the ones a licensing officer asks about first. Draw them against your expected peak rather than your average hour, and agree that peak with your organiser before anything else is fixed.
Second life
Where it goes next, and who holds it between
Reuse is real only if somebody has decided at the start where the components go afterwards and who keeps them in the interval. A schedule, a store with a roof and a named owner are what turn a demountable building into an asset. Name that owner now, in the same meeting that fixes the date.
Name that owner at the start. Somebody has to hold the component schedule, record what came back damaged, order replacements and keep the store dry between events, and it is a job nobody thinks to assign until the lorry is being loaded. It is one person’s part-time work, and it is what makes the second event real.
Arrival, queue and first sight
The approach has to hold a crowd that all arrives together. That means the queue stands out of the sun and the rain before it reaches a door, and the arriving queue and the leaving crowd are not sharing one width of paving. Both are drawn, rather than stewarded on the morning.
First sight matters more here than on any other building in the range, because most of the audience will only ever see the outside. The elevation facing the arrival route does the work: one legible form, one clear entrance, one place for the identity, and nothing added in the last week to cover for a weak drawing.
Behind that public face sits everything the crowd must not meet. Deliveries during the run, waste, the technical store, the supply point, and the crew’s own way in and out. On a shared site the service face is agreed with the organiser before anybody plans the queue, because it is the harder of the two to move.
How it comes apart
Structure here is steel, cut in the factory to a drawing; the skin is manufactured panel, glazing and screen, all of it dry-fixed. Nothing on this building is poured or laid where it stands, which is the ordinary method across the range and the reason this one can be taken down without demolishing anything.
What is particular is the joint. Fixings will stay reachable, the sequence will be reversible, and every component will carry a mark matching the assembly drawing, so the crew taking it down works from the same sheet as the crew that put it up. Nothing gets cut to fit on site.
The ground interface is the other particular thing. What the pavilion stands on, how load reaches the ground, what is fixed into it and what has to be made good afterwards are all designed against your permission and your run length. Coming down cleanly and leaving ground that recovers are two separate pieces of work.
Inside, on the busiest hour
The interior is designed for the worst hour, not for the photograph. A room that is generous with a handful of people in it and impassable once it is full is a failure that only shows itself on the day. Circulation width, where people stop, and the distance from the far corner to a door are your designer’s numbers.
The display and audiovisual zone wants planning rather than furnishing. Screens need a viewing distance and a wall that will take their weight; projection needs a throw and a controlled light level; a demonstration area needs power, data and somewhere for a queue that is not in the main route. All four settle before the frame.
Then the quiet part, which is where the commercial work actually happens. Meeting space, a hospitality area, somewhere for a conversation that is not shouted over a demonstration. It is usually first to be cut and first to be missed, because the whole reason for a pavilion is the conversations somebody has inside it.

The ground, before and after
Before anything arrives, the ground is a setting-out drawing and a survey. Levels, bearing, drainage and the existing surface are all recorded, because the state you found is the state you will be asked to return it to when the run ends.
During the run the ground carries the load, the access route and the services trench, and each of those leaves a different mark. Where the marks fall is a choice made on the plan, not an accident of wherever the crew found it convenient to work.
Afterwards the picture is the point. What the ground looks like once the pavilion has gone — reinstated turf, made-good paving, capped service points and no trench line still showing — is the last thing anybody photographs on that site, and the first thing your permission will be judged against when you come back for the next one.

The folio is for a brand, an organiser or an institution planning a pavilion against a fixed date: what separates it from a stand, what the room has to do when it is full, how it comes apart afterwards, and what is handed over before anything is committed.

A pavilion is not a large stand. A stand is furniture inside somebody else’s hall, borrowing their roof, their floor loading, their exits and their licence. A pavilion carries its own envelope, its own structure, its own escape routes and its own relationship with the ground, and whoever grants permission assesses it as a building.

That distinction is what makes the programme the first conversation. A building has to be designed, approved, manufactured, transported, assembled, tested and handed over against a date that will not shift, and every one of those steps sits on a schedule running backwards from the opening rather than forwards from today.

Back of house on an event building is small and entirely necessary: a crew room, a technical store, somewhere to charge and repair things, stock for whatever is handed out, and a place to put the packaging. Leave it out and it appears anyway, behind a curtain, in the corner your best photograph was going to come from.
Design for the worst hour, not for the photograph.
Services are temporary in duration and permanent in consequence. Supply and distribution, lighting, data, cooling, and water where there is catering all come to named points, and the difference between a coordinated pavilion and an improvised one is a cable route on a drawing instead of tape across a floor on opening morning.
Weather is the risk nobody plans for. An outdoor run in an Indian season means wind on a large light envelope, water at the ground interface and heat through glass, and each of the three is either designed for or endured. Designing for them is straightforward on paper; enduring them ruins the only days that mattered.
The reason for a pavilion is the conversations somebody has inside it.

Nothing habitable travels, on this product least of all. What moves between sites is frame members, panels, glazing units, screens and fixings, banded and stacked flat, exactly as they arrived the first time. There is no finished volume on a lorry and nothing room-shaped lifted into place, whatever moving a demountable building may suggest.
Nothing gets cut to fit on site, because a cut component has no second use.
Reuse is a discipline rather than a property. Components come back inspected, damaged ones are replaced against the schedule, gaskets and seals are treated as consumables, and the store keeps them dry. Do that and a second and third use are ordinary. Skip it and the building is single-use with extra steps.

04What comes before anything is orderedHow the pavilion reaches your ground, what the group’s figures cover, and the limits this page keeps to.
Frame members are fabricated in the factory. Panels, roof build-up, glazing units, screens, linings and fixings are manufactured and shipped as loose material, banded and labelled to the assembly order. On your ground the setting-out is marked, the frame is stood, panels go on dry, the envelope closes, and the fit-out follows in that same order every time.
Material arrives banded and flat, and leaves the same way when the run ends.
More than a hundred projects, sixty to ninety days on site and a twenty-five year warranty are the record of the manufacturing group. They are quoted here as a record and not as a programme committed to your pavilion, and each belongs to a quotation written for one project rather than to this page.
We claim no figure of our own for structure, fire, wind, heat or sound, and none at all for capacity. Any standard bearing on those is named, and certification belongs to your consultant and to whoever grants your permission. There is no price here either: a pavilion is quoted against its run, its ground and its programme.
One person holds the component schedule, and that is what makes the second event real.

Questions to close before the date is announced
Is this a pavilion building or a large exhibition stand?
A building. It carries its own structure, envelope, escape routes and relationship with the ground, and whoever grants your permission assesses it as a building. A stand is furniture inside somebody else’s hall, using their roof, their floor and their licence. The two are different purchases with different approvals behind them.
What is the assembly and dismantling sequence?
It is drawn before anything is ordered, and this page will not put a duration on it before your brief exists. The sequence will be reversible, every component marked against the assembly drawing, and the crew taking the building down will work from the same sheets as the crew that put it up.
Does it genuinely come apart, or is that a figure of speech?
Genuinely, and it is designed in rather than hoped for. Fixings stay reachable, the assembly sequence is reversible, and every component is marked against the drawing. What matters more is what happens next: a store, a schedule and somebody named to keep both. Without those three, demountable describes only the first day.
What about weather during an outdoor run?
It is designed for rather than endured. Wind on a large light envelope, water at the ground interface and heat through glass are the three that decide whether a run is comfortable, and each is settled with your engineer against your season and your ground. This page states no wind, thermal or structural figure as ours.
What travels between sites?
Frame members, panels, roof build-up, glazing units, screens and fixings, banded flat and numbered against the assembly drawing. That is what a lorry carries to your ground the first time and every time after it. A demountable building never becomes a travelling room; the parts travel, and the pavilion is assembled where it opens.

You and your consultants, from your survey and your organiser’s site rules. We draw the loads to the ground, the service points and the reinstatement expectation as a coordination boundary; the bearing, the supply, the consent and the licence belong to your site. All of them settle before a component is manufactured.
