The address and the two numbers

Ring in the working day and describe the plot; a first call about a piece of land is a short one and it settles more than a long exchange of messages.
The studio travels to plots, so the useful meeting is generally the one on your land rather than the one at this address. Say where the site is when you ring and the conversation can open on the approach, the orientation and the levels rather than on a list of designs.

Five things worth having in front of you
Where the land is, and how a lorry reaches it. What the building is for, and who will occupy it. Roughly how many bedrooms, keys or desks the building has to hold. When it has to open. And whether a survey exists, because a survey turns a general conversation into a specific one on the first call.
None of that has to be complete. A client with a plot and a use and nothing else is a normal first call, and the missing pieces get named on that call rather than assumed. What is not useful is a request for a figure with no site attached, because the honest answer to that question is another question.

What follows a first call
A shortlist of two or three published designs, and for each of them that is drawn, the sheets behind it, sent to you to read and to hand to your own architect or engineer. Nothing is asked of you in return at that stage. Where a shortlisted design has no sheets yet, you are told when they are drawn.
If the conversation continues, the design you have chosen is set out on your own survey, with everything the ground decides settled on that drawing: which way it faces, how it sits in the fall of the land, where a load can reach it, and how it divides if you open in more than one go. The quotation follows that drawing.

Three things nobody here will answer over the phone
A figure for a building on a plot that has not been seen, because it would be a guess and it would be wrong in one direction or the other. A completion date before the design and the approvals on your side are understood. And what the ground under your base has to do, which is your engineer’s decision from your survey rather than ours.
Those three get answered in writing, against your project, once there is something real to answer them from. Everything else — what the buildings are made of, how they go together, what is fixed and what is not, what the drawings contain — can be answered on the call, and the sheets are sent whether or not the project goes anywhere.
