A prefab experience centre is a building your visitor walks through once, in an order you decide. The route comes first here, and the plan will be drawn to it.

Bay or screen
What the raised entrance bay is made of
The centre of this building lifts above the wings and it is the thing people photograph. It can be glazed, so the hall inside is visible from the forecourt and lit at night, or clad in a perforated screen that hides the hall and gives you a surface your identity belongs on. Both sit in the same frame. One sells transparency, the other sells anticipation.
Glazed and screened versions of the bay can be shown in the same frame, on one elevation, so a brand team holds the two together and argues about them properly. Choosing on paper takes an afternoon. Choosing after the frame stands means new panels, new fixings and a delay measured in weeks rather than in meetings.
The route
One way through, or a room people wander
A guided visit and an open floor are different buildings, not different furniture layouts. A guided visit needs a start, a sequence of thresholds and an exit that does not send people back through what they have already seen. An open floor needs one large clear volume and doors that stay unlocked. Settle this before the plan is drawn, because it fixes every door.
Dark or daylit
How much of the wing wall stays solid
Displays want control of light and visitors want to know where they are. The wings can be closed with panel and lit entirely from the ceiling, opened with framed windows onto planting, or mixed, with the darker half where the demonstration sits. This changes the elevation as much as it changes the experience, so it is a decision for your curator and your architect together.

Whether the centre outlasts the campaign it opens for
Some of these buildings answer a permanent visitor programme and some a launch that has an end date. The difference leaves the structure alone, but it reaches the fit-out, the services and the way the joints are detailed. Say which you are commissioning at the start. Nothing here is harder to unwind than a fixed-term building detailed as a permanent one.
A permanent centre and a fixed-term centre diverge at the services, not at the frame. A permanent one gets its cable routes buried and its technical room built in; a temporary one gets them accessible and its panel joints set out to be undone. Both are ordinary decisions at the drawing stage and both are expensive to reverse once the linings are closed.
Arrival at the raised bay
You approach across paving and the building reads immediately as a middle and two sides. The middle stands taller and steps forward, the wings run out low and level on either side, and the entrance is in the middle where you expected it to be. Nobody needs a sign to find the door, which is the first thing an entrance should manage.
The raised bay is the whole gesture. It rises clear above the wing parapets and carries a different material from them, so it separates itself even in a photograph taken from across a car park. Behind it the hall runs full height. From outside, at dusk, that height is legible as a single lit volume rather than a row of windows.
The wings are flat manufactured panels on an even joint grid, broken by framed windows that look into lit display rooms, and by runs of vertical fins where the sun needs filtering. A few steps rise to the entrance with a level route beside them, and the paving reaches a low dark base course that runs the full length of the frontage.
Walk around the outside
Walk the outside and the frame is countable. Steel members carry everything; the walls are manufactured panels screwed to them and meeting at an even dry joint. The joint grid is set out, not incidental, and it runs unbroken from the wing across the raised bay. No part of this envelope was mixed, poured or laid where it stands.
The raised bay is framed independently of the wings and expressed that way, with its own edge and its own shadow line where it lifts clear of the parapet. Whether it then reads as glass or as screen, the frame behind it is the same. That is why the choice in decision one is a finish decision rather than a structural one.
Where a screen is used it is a manufactured panel in a frame, fixed dry, with a repeating perforation you can count from the paving. Where fins are used they are wood-tone anodised aluminium standing clear of the glazing. Neither is timber and neither is bamboo; those two do not go on the outside of anything we make.
Through the hall and the wings
The doors open into the hall under the raised bay, and the ceiling is the first thing you register, because it is higher here than anywhere else in the building. That height is the orientation: a person standing inside the door can see where the route begins without being told. A desk sits to one side rather than blocking the middle.
From the hall the route turns into the wings, and the thresholds are deliberate. Each opening is narrower than the space beyond it, so walking through one registers as arriving somewhere. That is an old trick and it works. What it costs is a little floor area, which is why it has to be decided at plan stage rather than argued about during the fit-out.
The far end of the route is where people sit down. A room with a door, a table, coffee, and a window looking out at planting rather than at the car park. Everything before it was designed to bring a visitor to that table interested; the room itself is deliberately ordinary, because by then the building has done its job.

The interior fit-out
Inside, the fit-out lands on a building set out for it. Ceiling grid, lighting positions, power and data outlets and the mounting lines on the display walls will all follow the rhythm of the frame, so a fitter measuring from a panel joint reaches the same answer as one measuring from the drawing.
The hall interior is where the height is spent. The ceiling under the raised bay is lined and lit as one surface, and the walls beneath it are left plain on purpose, because whatever a brand hangs there should not compete with a pattern. Interior finishes follow the palette family assigned to the exterior, warmed, with the interior’s own stone and joinery.
The wings are the opposite: worked, close, and lit at the surfaces rather than from above. Display niches recess into the panel line so their edges land on a joint, and the framed windows give a visitor a moment of daylight between two dark rooms. That rhythm of dark and light is the fit-out’s real structure.

A visitor centre earns nothing from being large. It earns from being clear. The three-part composition here is doing that work: a middle you walk to, and two sides that hold what you will be shown. That reading survives every scale this building is drawn at, and it survives being seen from a car that is not slowing down.
Nobody needs a sign to find the door.
This is a building for a guided visit, not a shop and not a showroom floor. If what you actually need is a place to transact, or a room in which product is merchandised and sold, that is a different brief with a different plan. Saying so here saves a conversation later, and the difference shows up first in the doors.

Behind the wings runs the part nobody is shown: a store for crates and spares, a technical room for the equipment that drives the displays, staff washrooms, a pantry and a service door onto the back of the plot. Every one of them belongs in the plan. A centre without them ends up with cable runs taped across a floor visitors walk on.
Each opening is narrower than the space beyond it, so walking through registers as arriving.
Accessibility is not an afterthought on a building that exists to be visited. The level route arrives at the same threshold as the steps, the thresholds along the whole visit are flush, and the turning space in the seated room and the washroom is set out rather than assumed. If your visitors include school groups or clients on a schedule, that route is the one that gets used most.
The displays themselves are yours. What we draw is the building they mount to: where a wall can take load, where power and data terminate, where a ceiling can be reached, and how a crate on a trolley gets from the service door to the far wing without going through the hall. Your fit-out designer will ask for exactly those four things.

03What it is made ofThe frame, the panels, the screen and the glass, and how a fit-out lands on top of them.
What the specification names is each panel and what it is finished to look like. A wing panel may read as fine-grained stone or as a flat mineral surface; it remains a panel, and anyone who looks at the joint grid can see that. We describe no wet trade on this building, because there is none in how it is made.
The joint grid is set out, not incidental.
Material comes to your site in a sequence that suits a fit-out rather than a shell. Frame first, then panels, roof and glazing, then the screen bay, and only then the internal linings, so that the technical room and the cable routes are closed last. A centre fitted out in the wrong order is a centre opened with its ceiling still off.
Whatever a brand hangs on that wall should not have to compete with a pattern.

What these design studies share is describable now: the raised centre bay, the low wings either side, the panel joint grid, the framed display windows, and an entrance bay that takes glass or a perforated screen. Which study becomes the design is open, and no colour is named on this page, because the palette family arrives with that decision.
The building can be planned around every one of those figures. It will not pretend to have been tested for any.
The group’s manufacturing record puts a phase at sixty to ninety days from the moment work starts on your ground, and every quotation narrows it. For a centre it matters mostly because the fit-out programme sits behind it: your display contractor needs a weathertight, powered building with a date on it. It is not the reason to build this way.
A centre invites performance claims, and this is where we decline them. We publish no lux level, no sound-reduction figure, no projection specification and no fire, thermal or structural number as ours. Those belong to your AV consultant and to a licensed professional working from your site. The building can be planned around every one of them; it will not pretend to have been tested for any.
Your display contractor needs a weathertight, powered building with a date on it.
Search for this building today and you will find prefab manufacturers, capably presented, selling something else. That is not a weakness on their part; a visitor centre simply is not what they make. What we intend to put in front of you instead is a plan of a route, and drawings your fit-out team can work from.

What a brand team should settle early
What is this building for, exactly?
A guided visit. A brand, a manufacturer or an institution brings clients, partners, students or officials to one place, walks them through something in a fixed order, and sits them down at the end. The plan follows that sequence. If what you need is a place to sell from, the brief is a different one.
Can it be dark enough inside for projection?
The building can be planned for it: the wing walls can stay solid, the openings can sit away from a screen, and the darker half of the route can hold the demonstration. What we will not do is publish a lux figure or a contrast ratio. That belongs to your AV consultant, against the equipment you actually specify.
Who fits out the displays — you or our agency?
Your agency, on our drawings. We set out where a wall takes load, where power and data terminate, where the ceiling can be reached, and how a crate reaches the far wing without crossing the hall. Those four things will be on the sheets, and they are what a fit-out designer asks for first.
Can we change the layout after it opens?
Internally, yes: the linings and the display walls are dry-fixed and can be taken back. The frame, the raised bay and the wing positions are the part that holds, and the elevation depends on them. Tell us at drawing stage if the interior is expected to change every year, because that changes how the services run.
What can we look at before committing to anything?
The form these design studies share, the composition described on this page and the four decisions. Thirteen A3 sheets follow once a design is selected; none is drawn today and none is listed here. That is a plainer answer than implying a folder already exists, and it is the one you can act on.
Is it permanent, or does it come down afterwards?
Either, and it is your call at the start rather than at the end. The frame bolts together and the panels screw to it, so a fixed-term building can be detailed to be taken apart. We state no count of relocations and no warranty on reuse, because neither has been measured, and an unmeasured figure is worse than none.
